Former South Florida talent announced his commitment to the Cardinals for next season.
During the offseason, a lot of college basketball players are seeking new homes every day through the Transfer Portal, which just keeps spinning. The most recent news comes from Louisville, where Kasean Pryor, a former standout player from South Florida, declared his commitment to the Cardinals for the next campaign.
Pryor, a 6’9 forward from Chicago, attended high school in Missouri and Michigan before starting his college career in 2020 at Boise State. With the Broncos, he played very little and received very little court time. In his first two seasons, he scored just 24 points. The next season, Pryor was a student at Northwest Florida State College.
Pryor returned to D1 basketball over the previous offseason, joining South Florida’s new head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, after excelling with a lot of playing time. During that time at the junior college level, Pryor’s game improved in every way, and this season, he became a formidable weapon for the Bulls.
Pryor was one of South Florida’s most important players in an unexpected season, averaging 13.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while putting up respectable shooting numbers all over the court. He was the team’s best rebounder and third-leading scorer for the Bulls, who shocked everyone by taking first place in the AAC regular season.
Early in the season, Pryor was more of a role player, but he would become into a force, especially during league play. In December, he made his debut as a starter and had a strong performance in an unexpected victory against Florida State. Over the AAC season, he would have multiple memorable games. Most notably, he would score 29 points against Rice before recording numerous double-doubles.
Pryor put on a really strong performance that elevated his stature as one of the league’s top defensive players in addition to being a gifted scorer and rebounder. It is not surprising to see him experimenting with the Transfer Portal once more, given he played a significant role in South Florida’s remarkable comeback.
Louisville has emerged as his career’s next move after some thought. He becomes a member of Pat Kelsey’s starting lineup. In previous years, Kelsey has assembled some strong rosters in Charleston. Pryor is the newest player on a roster that also includes a few other prospects, James Madison’s Terrence Edwards Jr., and Wisconsin’s Chucky Hepburn.
