On Tuesday, the Atlanta Braves made the difficult decision to place left-hander Tyler Matzek on the 15-day injured list due to elbow irritation. The move is retroactive to May 5, and Matzek informed Brian Snitker about it during Monday’s off day.

The Braves chose Ray Kerr over Ken Giles and Daysbel Hernandez because he adds length. Kerr has averaged more than one inning in the majority of his Gwinnett appearances.
To cover Matzek’s roster slot, the Braves called up lefty Ray Kerr from Triple-A Gwinnett, where he had played in nine games. He’s pitched 14 innings and has a 4.50 ERA.
This is the bullpen’s second setback this week, as Pierce Johnson went on the injured list over the weekend.
