Sunderland midfielder was involved in a crash that destroyed many automobiles.
According to the Echo, the player was driving on Dovedale Road in Seaburn around 11.55 a.m. today. He is not on the team sheet against Preston owing to a groin injury.

According to a Northumbria Police spokesperson, a 30-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of driving over the legal alcohol limit and is currently in police custody.Inquiries are underway, and the arrest comes after a car collided with several parked vehicles on Dovedale Road in Sunderland.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 458 of today’s date.”

The police have not confirmed the arrested man’s identification. He was seen speaking with a police officer in the street, which is close to the club’s training field, the Academy of Light.

According to witnesses, he was in one of the cars when the incident occurred and was transferred to a police car after cops conducted their initial investigations.

Damaged vehicles include a Mercedes 4×4, another Mercedes, and a white Seat.

 

Northumbria Police called Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to help clean a petrol spillage from the road after the incident.

Sunderland Central Fire Station dispatched a crew to wipe away the petroleum.

Sunderland AFC’s spokesman stated the club was “aware of a traffic accident” but declined to comment further.

The 30-year-old joined Sunderland on an 18-month contract in January of last year, having previously played for Everton for five years.

The Republic of Ireland international was born in Derry and formerly played for Manchester United, where he signed at the age of 17.

The midfielder signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, ending a successful spell at Old Trafford that began at the age of 17.

Sunderland’s manager indicated earlier this month that the victim was still weeks away from returning to the game after suffering an injury during the team’s game against a competitor.

In July of last year, he sparked outrage when he was caught making “foul-mouthed and derogatory comments” about his squad and teammates.
