The Lakers have traded for Darius Garland; shockingly, he will be benching a superstar on the squad.
According to various sources, the Lakers plan to pursue top players this offseason. Donovan Mitchell has been one of the most frequently discussed names, along with Trae Young.
The Cavaliers’ loss from the playoffs established the basis for a personnel overhaul. All eyes were drawn to Mitchell, and for good cause. As he approaches the end of his contract, Cleveland will consider signing him to an extension or trading him if he decides not to stay with the team.
However, there is another guard in Cleveland who could be available. If Mitchell decides to stay, it is unlikely that his partnership with Darius Garland would last. According to Shams Charania, Joe Vardon, and Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, the Cavs are likely to look to trade Garland.
Furthermore, opposing executives believe the Cavs will have to seriously consider the fit of Mitchell and Garland, and may have to choose between the two. If Mitchell decides to stay long term, sources close to the situation say Garland’s agent, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, would speak with Cavs officials about maybe finding a new home for the one-time All-Star.
First, when it comes to Mitchell, it certainly doesn’t seem like he’s upset with his current situation. In the aftermath of his team’s exit and reports about him surfacing, Mitchell called them out on Twitter.
