Christian Sauls berry,a wide receiver for the Edmonton Elks, was shot and died in Memphis, the team said on Saturday.

On Monday, Saulsberry celebrated his 25th birthday. Regarding the incident, no further details were provided.

The Elks released a statement saying, “First and foremost, our hearts go out to his family during this incredibly difficult time.” “Our condolences are also extended to his friends, including the many teammates and coaches both here in Edmonton and elsewhere, that he impacted throughout his football career.”

Southaven, Mississippi, native Saulsberry participated in eight Edmonton games in 2022.

The player, who is five feet eight inches tall and is well-known for his speed, was selected twice for the Gulf South Conference while attending the University of West Alabama. In 2019, during his senior year, he set a team record with 1,223 all-purpose yards.

“Christian’s contributions to our football team both on the field and in our locker room were significant during his one season with the Green and Gold,” remarked the Elks. “His positivity and energy for life will be dearly missed.”
