At the age of 42, Brandon Hunter, a player with the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic, passed away.

Jeff Boals, the head basketball coach at Ohio University, announced Hunter’s passing on social media on Tuesday night, calling it a “Sad day for Bobcat Nation” on X, a platform that was once known as Twitter.

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Hunter excelled as a basketball player at Withrow University High School before moving on to play as a Bobcat for Ohio University’s men’s basketball team from 1999 to 2003.

He was also named to the All-MAC First Team three times. According to Fox News, Hunter led the NCAA in rebounds during his final year at the university.

Hunter was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 56th overall pick in the second round of the 2003 NBA draft as a result of his outstanding play with the Bobcats. According to Fox News, he spent one season playing 36 games and averaging 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds with the Celtics.

After that, he was traded to the Orlando Magic, where in 31 games during the 2004–05 season, he averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds.

The Orlando Magic paid tribute to the basketball player in a statement that read, “We are absolutely saddened to learn of the loss of our former teammate, Brandon Hunter.” “The entire Hunter family has our sincere condolences.”
