Wilfred Ndidi, the Leicester City midfielder, has stated that he ‘won’t mind’ proving himself elsewhere if the appropriate opportunity arises.
For more than a year, Leicester City midfielder Ndidi’s future has been a source of speculation.
Since the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League, the Nigerian has been heavily linked with a transfer abroad, and speculation has only grown as his contract expires this summer.
His contract position remains uncertain as the expiry date approaches; as things stand, the January 2017 signing will leave Leicester at the end of his current contract.
Only time will tell what the coming weeks and months hold for Ndidi, but the 27-year-old has now spoken about his future.
According to African news outlet Complete Sports (as recounted by Leicestershire Live), the Leicester City man refused to comment on what awaits him, but stated he ‘won’t mind’ if he ends up trying his luck away from the Foxes. He said:
“If a good chance comes, I won’t mind trying my luck elsewhere but for now I remain a Leicester City player.”
A future without the Foxes?
Leicester City are preparing to return to the Premier League, and while Ndidi is undeniably a top-flight talent, it appears that he will not join them.
He may still play Premier League football if any admirers come calling, but as his contract expires, it becomes increasingly unlikely that he will play for them again.
Ndidi would have no shortage of admirers if he becomes a free agent. Clubs throughout Europe will undoubtedly be interested in a defensive midfielder who was among the best in the league prior to injury.
He has the potential to be an asset for Enzo Maresca, but as his contract expires, it appears that a move away is in the cards.
The appropriate time for a fresh start.
It appears that Ndidi is ready to embark on new adventures.
It’s either sign a new long-term contract or start a fresh chapter elsewhere, and the latter seems more likely. He helped Leicester City return to the Premier League after relegation, and he will bid a fond farewell when his contract expires this summer.
At 27, the Lagos-born star still has some promising years ahead of him, and he hopes to find his peak performance wherever he next plays.
His fate should be decided soon, but now appears to be the appropriate time for all parties to split ways.
