According to Kansas City legislation, possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in prison and a maximum fine of $1,000 for first-time offenders. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office records show that both Morris and Godrick were first-time offenders.

Morris was picked by the Chiefs as an offensive tackle in 2023, after graduating from the University of Oklahoma the previous year. He finished his debut season as a Super Bowl champion, when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year.

Similarly, Godrick joined the team in 2023 as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program, which seeks to boost the organization’s representation of players from countries other than the United States and Canada. According to the Chiefs’ web roster, the Nigerian-born athlete will begin his second season with the team as an offensive lineman this year.

E! News has reached out to Morris, Godrick, and Chiefs representatives for comment, but has yet to hear back.

However, Morris and Godrick are not the only Chiefs players making headlines this week. Harrison Butker, their colleague, has faced criticism for his divisive commencement speech at Benedictine College on May 11.

The kicker’s address included a wide range of themes, including his personal opinions on abortion, women’s roles, and LGBTQ+ rights.

Following his remarks, the NFL clarified that Butker’s words did not reflect the whole league. “Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity,” the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, Jonathan Beane, told People. “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization.”

Beane continued, “The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
