Damià Vidagany, Aston Villa’s director of football operations, has hinted at a busy summer ahead, with an emphasis on developing a Champions League club.

The Aston Villa director has been speaking with Marca about his team since they qualified for the Champions League this season.

Aston Villa are guaranteed fourth place this season following an excellent campaign in which they have won 23 of 37 games.

They are five points clear of Tottenham in sixth place, securing Champions League football at Villa Park for the first time in 42 years.

Much of their success has been down to the arrival of Unai Emery, who has turned things around and has received support in the transfer window as a result.
The belief is that he will be backed again in the summer, and Vidagany has clearly intimated as much.
“With the players we already had and the signings we had the dream of getting into Europe, getting into the Champions League came later because we have been very good,” he stated.

“In the micro league of the top four of Aston Villa, City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, we have won the most points recently. We are quite thrilled, but now we are concerned about developing a good team.

One of the key decisions to be made is the future of defender Clement Lenglet, who has spent the season on loan from Barcelona.

Aston Villa did not agree on a purchase clause for the defender when he first signed, therefore he will return to the Camp Nou at the conclusion of the season.

So yet, there has been no indication that Aston Villa will make a move to sign him or initiate negotiations with Barcelona, but Vidagany has hinted that they are pleased with the centre-back.
