Emiliano Buendía picked a career ending injury and tenders resignation ….
Unai Emery says that after qualifying for the Champions League, Aston Villa “are not thinking” about adding many players this summer.
Emery, speaking before of Villa’s final game of the season away to Crystal Palace, argues that the club must adhere to Profit and Sustainability Regulations. As The Athletic recently revealed, despite the riches of the Champions League, Villa are short on PSR and will need to balance their budget this summer.
“To play in the Champions League for the players we have and for the players that we want to add, maybe it could help us,” Emery stated.
“We need to be intelligent. We must establish fair play standards and, as a result, form a new team, although we are not considering adding or signing a large number of players. We’re attempting to be intelligent about how we can better the squad. Of course, we will be highly exacting in our decision, but we must conduct a thorough analysis.
“From a financial standpoint, participating in the Champions League is preferable than not participating. But we must manage and plan the fair plat at the start of this season. I believe we can be intelligent.
Emery also stated Cameron Archer, who was sold to Sheffield United for £18.5 million last summer, will return to the club. As part of the agreement, Villa committed to bring back the forward if Sheffield United were relegated. The 22-year-old has made 29 Premier League appearances and scored four goals, one of which came against Villa.
“Yes, he is coming back,” responded the Spaniard. “We are analysing and we are going to meet with (owners) Nassef (Sawiris) and Wes Edens) and we are going to individually analyse each situation and try to take the best decision with every player.”
