Ross Barkley issued a scathing statement regarding his resignation…

Chelsea confirmed Ross Barkley’s departure with an official statement. The midfielder was not wanted at the club, and the Blues have mutually decided to terminate his contract. With days remaining in the transfer window, the player might join another team on a free transfer.

Ross Barkley will not remember his time at Chelsea fondly, following a catastrophic period that was supposed to propel his career. Rather than progressing, the former Everton star’s career stagnated as he lost importance on multiple fronts, including the England squad.

Since joining from Everton in January 2018 for a reported fee of £15 million, Barkley has gone on to make precisely 100 senior appearances. He joined Aston Villa on loan for the season, although the club decided against signing him permanently.

Barkley is being pursued by a number of clubs, with the Premier League showing the most interest. However, those teams may postpone such a transfer for the time being because free agents may be signed beyond the deadline, implying that there is no rush to sign the midfielder.

Celtic has also expressed interest, but with increased interest from English clubs, the midfielder may decide to stay in the nation. There is no mention of any admiration from other leagues. The 28-year-old still has plenty of time to rebuild his career and make a strong case from here.

Aston Villa are also considering re-signing him, since they may be able to get by with someone who has previously worked for the club. However, Barkley should expect to receive a number of bids in the coming days, as the 28-year-old’s next destination could be within England.
