Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick, Kansas City Chiefs athletes, were both arrested for minor marijuana possession.

A sheriff’s officer arrested the offensive linemen Thursday night and booked them early Friday morning.

They were freed Friday afternoon after paying a $2,500 bond, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Both men will be in court on May 23.

The charge against them both is a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a $2,500 fine and up to a year in jail.

Morris won the Super Bowl with the Chiefs earlier this year. The former third-round pick from Oklahoma played 14 games last season and should fight for a starting spot this year.
Godrick, on the other hand, spent time on the Chiefs’ practice squad after signing with the NFL’s International Pathway Player program in 2023.

The arrests come at a bad time for the Chiefs, who have had a rough offseason after defeating the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl in February.

Kicker Harrison Butker has been roundly chastised this week for a contentious statement he delivered at a Kansas college’s graduating ceremony.

Butker complimented the ladies who received degrees from Benedictine College, stating that the majority of them were likely more enthused about marrying and having children.

He further said that some Catholic officials were ‘pushing toxic gender notions upon the youth of America.’

Butker, whose mother is a successful physicist, also condemned Pride Month and President Joe Biden’s abortion policies.

The outrageous comments drew fierce criticism, and a day later, a petition was launched to have the Chiefs kicker removed from the team’s roster ahead of the 2024 NFL season. It has now gathered more than 187,000 signatures.Meanwhile, wide receiver Rashee Rice is suspected of assault in Dallas, just over a month after being one of the fast drivers in an incident that resulted in several charges.

According to law enforcement sources, Rice was accused of attacking a person at a downtown nightclub earlier this month, and the subject was sent to the hospital following the confrontation.

Rice reported to the Chiefs for voluntary workouts last month, and Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he had spoken with the receiver and the eam was letting the legal process play out.

The former SMU and Dallas-area high school athlete reported to the Chiefs immediately after surrendering to Dallas police on various charges, including aggravated assault, related to the high-speed crash.

Rice’s attorney, Texas state Sen. Royce West, previously said Rice was speeding in a Lamborghini SUV when the six-vehicle incident occurred on March 30. Police said Theodore Knox, who also played for SMU, was driving a Corvette.

Rice, who turned 24 last month, and Knox have been charged with one crime of aggravated assault, one case of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision resulting in injury.
