The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently dealing with a holdout. Their Pro Bowl defensive end, Cam Heyward, has not participated in voluntary offseason workouts and will miss Organized Team Activities (OTAs) while looking for a new deal.
Heyward is entering the final year of a four-year, $65 million contract signed in 2020. He is expected to earn $16 million in basic salary in 2024.
Heyward has been a standout player for the Steelers since being selected in the first round of the 2011 draft. In his first 12 years in the NFL, he won six Pro Bowls and three First-Team All-Pro honors, missing only 11 games.
Heyward, on the other hand, faced difficulties during the 2023 campaign. He had a groin injury in Week 1 and was limited to 11 games. His output also declined significantly, as he only produced 2.0 sacks, his lowest total since becoming starter in 2013.

This, combined with the fact that Heyward has recently turned 35, is likely why the Steelers are hesitant to offer the veteran a new contract. Heyward has previously claimed that he plans to play at least a few more seasons before retiring.
