The scuderia has lost their former formula one legend due to….
In his 27 years with the company, the Italian was an iconic figure, overseeing four Formula One driver championships and seven constructor titles.
Forghieri was a real engineering all-rounder, pioneering advances in chassis, engine, and gearbox design.
He created some of Ferrari’s most famous vehicles, including the 312 T series, which won three drivers’ and four constructors’ championships from 1975 to 1979.
At the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix, Forghieri was the first engineer to install aerodynamic rear wings on a car, assisting Ferrari driver Chris Amon in taking pole position nearly four seconds faster than the next quickest car.
He also designed Ferrari’s first turbocharged engine. Introduced in 1981, four years after Renault pioneered the technology in F1, Ferrari was the first team to win the constructors’ championship with a turbo car in 1982, and they repeated the achievement in 1983.
‘He was special.’
, Scuderia Ferrari team principal and managing director, paid tribute to Forghieri.
He stated, “Today is a very sad day for everyone at Scuderia Ferrari.”
“We mourn the loss of Mauro Forghieri, one of the most incredible guys to have worked here.
“With his profound ideas, he was one of the few all-round engineers in the automotive industry. I met him on several occasions, and each time was memorable.
“He was, in the end, an incredibly charismatic person. His revolutionary ideas, along with his flamboyant personality and ability as a brilliant motivator, meant he played a critical role in some of Ferrari’s most historic events, and he contributed more than most to the Prancing Horse mystique. “We’ll all miss him.”
Stefano Domenicali, Formula One president, said: “I am deeply saddened to learn of our friend Mauro Forghieri’s death. He was a significant part of F1 and Ferrari and leaves an amazing legacy for everyone.
