The Miami Dolphins announced on Tuesday that former Virginia Tech defensive tackle Mario Kendricks has joined with the team. Kendricks is the third athlete to earn a spot on the 90-man roster following rookie minicamp, joining former Rutgers offensive lineman Ireland Brown and former Wisconsin defensive back Jason Maitre.

Kendricks was also invited to the Kansas City Chiefs minicamp, but he signed with Miami after making 67 tackles, seven sacks, and batting three passes in five seasons with the HokiesHe started 20 of his 67 games at Virginia Tech. Kendricks finished his senior season with 16 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss over 13 games. Since the beginning of 2022, he has started 14 games, totaling 9.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks.

At 6 feet tall and 294 pounds, Kendricks joins a team that has already signed a few defensive tackles since free agency began. Zach Sieler will lead Miami’s defensive line, but there are still plenty of snaps available in the defensive rotation after Christian Wilkins left for the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason.

Rookie minicamp ended over the weekend, but we’ll begin to get an idea of what defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver is planning for the trenches as offseason team activities heat up in the coming weeks.
