Reed Sheppard, Kentucky’s freshman star, revealed Thursday that he will join the NBA Draft in 2024.

Sheppard thanked supporters in a video on social media and told ESPN that he is “going all-in,” foregoing his remaining college eligibility.

Reed Sheppard, the son of former Kentucky basketball stars Jeff Sheppard and Stacey Reed, was voted National rookie of the Year by the USBWA and NABC after emerging from Kentucky’s highly regarded, crowded rookie class.

Sheppard averaged 12.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in 33 games (just five starts), shooting an impressive 52.1 percent from three.

Many mock drafts had him as a lottery pick in June.

“Playing basketball at the University of Kentucky was a huge part of my dream,” Sheppard stated in his video. “I am grateful to wear the blue and white jersey that represents my family, friends, and the industrious, loyal fans of the Big Blue Nation. Kentucky is home. Kentucky will always be home.

“However, another aspect of my desire is to play basketball in the NBA. I believe it’s time to chase that desire. Therefore, I shall enter my name into

the NBA draft today.”

Sheppard’s decision came in the middle of a transition to a new head coach after John Calipari parted ways with the school to take the Arkansas job.
