These negotiations have taken a long time to complete. Rumors began to spread in March, after Beckham visited Miami’s facility and head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that they had given an offer. But after that, everything went silent.

As April came, the idea of OBJ visiting Miami began to feel like a fever dream. However, the organization made it official only five days after word leaked that the team and OBJ had reached a contract agreement.

Beckham received higher offers from other teams but chose to accept a lower deal from Miami. OBJ’s base salary of $3 million, with incentives of up to $8.25 million, represents a nearly $12 million drop from his one-year, $15 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens. Some fans believe the Dolphins are overpaying him, while others believe the team got him for a steal.

The Dolphins already have an outstanding receiving corps with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, so Beckham’s addition appears to be just another boost. The OBJ acquisition comes after Miami selected two wide receivers in the 2024 NFL draft: Malik Washington of Virginia and Tahj Washington of USC.
Obviously, as a rookie, Beckham will likely play in the No. 3 slot behind Hill and Waddle, and the offense may transition away from leaning primarily on those two. Beckham also provides a much-needed boost, guarding and being that option for when Hill and/or Waddle go down with injury, as we witnessed at the end of last season when both of them were spent.

The Dolphins did also re-sign Braxton Berrios and River Cracraft, so with the new draft selections and Beckham joining the squad, the team might’ve done themselves a favor.
