The Steelers signed in a new player: their fourth-round choice to a four-year contract

The Steelers signed guard Mason McCormick, their fourth-round choice from South Dakota State, to a four-year contract. McCormick was picked as the 119th overall pick.

“We obviously loved him,” offensive line coach Pat Meyer explained. “He comes from a little school, yet the child is tough. He plays football the correct way.

“He wanted to be a Steeler, and I knew that just from talking to him and working out. We’re excited to have him.

“We’re going to pencil him in at guard. He will come in and compete from the start.”

McCormick has appeared in 70 games during his undergraduate career, including a school-record streak of 57 games in which he played the first offensive snap at left guard in all 15 games in 2023.

“I am very excited to be a Pittsburgh Steeler,” McCormick stated. “This is definitely a dream come true.”

McCormick received All-America and All-Missouri Valley Football Conference accolades for the fourth time in his career in 2023. In addition, he was named Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week after defeating North Dakota.

Some have labeled McCormick as the meanest but friendliest player around.

He agrees, recognizing that on and off the field are two distinct things.

“I think on the field there is only one way to play this game,” McCormick remarked. “When you are off the field, there is no reason not to be a good person and nice to people.”
