Steelers reportedly decline fifth-year option which is a disaster

The Pittsburgh Steelers startled fans and the NFL landscape last week when they declined running back Najee Harris’ fifth-year option. Harris shown the ability to stay on the field by not missing a game in three years and rushing for more than 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons.

However, the Steelers’ lack of interest in Harris may not have been due to their own. Rather, the former first-round pick may want to pursue other opportunities following the season.

According to Paul Zeise of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Harris urged the Steelers to decline his fifth-year option because he wants to play elsewhere after his contract expires.

“A little birdie said Najee Harris actually asked for the Steelers to decline his fifth-year option because he would like to play somewhere else,” Zeise stated on 93.7 The Joe Show. The fan inside

Zeise stated that the person who provided him with such information was also the person who informed him that the Steelers would trade for quarterback Justin Fields.

whether Harris truly wants to play somewhere, one has to wonder whether Pittsburgh would consider trading him as part of a package for a receiver. However, this would simply leave a void at running back, with Jaylen Warren the sole proven talent at the position. In any case, this is something to keep an eye on over the next year.
