The Green Bay Packers chose to move on from fan-favorite running back Aaron Jones this off-season. The transfer came as a bit of a surprise, especially with the Josh Jacobs signing at almost the same time. What was more stunning was Jones’ choice to sign with the Minnesota Vikings mere days later.
Now that everyone has had time to reflect on the situation, the Packers’ running back coach had a sincere message to share.
According to Ryan Wood of USA Today, the Green Bay Packers’ running back coach has admitted to the departure of Aaron Jones.
According to Packers running back coach Ben Sirmans, Aaron Jones’ release was a difficult and “pretty sad” day.
“I’d say the most significant interruption was not having him there as a person. I have spent more time with him than any other running back in my career.”
“After everything went down,” Sirmans explained, “I had the opportunity to speak with him. We both revealed our feelings regarding each other. He understands that it is a business. I wished him well, and we definitely talked about seeing each other twice a year.
“I jokingly said to him, ‘We aren’t going to get the Dallas treatment, are we?'”
The Packers will face Jones twice. In 2024
The announcement of Jones’ retirement from Green Bay after seven seasons felt abrupt. It was even more stunning to find that he had signed with the rival Minnesota Vikings only a few days later.
The 29-year-old running back, who was unveiled with Sam Darnold and other freshly signed Vikings, viewed the move solely as business.
“It is not weird at all. “It’s football,” Jones stated during his first Minnesota press conference. “I played on a variety of teams throughout my childhood, including middle and high school. You change teams. You change teammates. “That’s part of the game.”
Jones went on to say, “It is part of the business. You understand what you signed up for. My agent had phoned me before all of this happened and informed me it was a possibility, so my mind was already set, and all I wanted to do was go where I felt desired. That’s arrived, and I’m thrilled to be here.”
Jones is expected to play with a chip on his shoulder this season, particularly against Green Bay.
