Wilkins played on his fifth-year option in 2023 after turning down the team’s long-term contract offer, and he simply elevated his game. Wilkins was his usual excellent form against the run, but he made a significant contribution as a pass rusher. Given the Dolphins’ salary cap position, re-signing him will be difficult, but using the franchise tag on him is also an option. Forecast: Return more likely than not.

Hunt was part of the Dolphins’ large 2020 draft class, with 11 overall picks and five in the first two rounds, and it’s hard to disagree that he’s been the most consistent of the bunch over his first four seasons. Hunt battled a hamstring issue down the stretch but delivered another strong performance. Outlook: Return likely.

Given his performance at a more crucial offensive line position, one may argue that Williams should be higher on this ranking than Hunt. But we also have to add in the fact that Williams will most likely be sidelined at the start of the 2024 season, which could damage his

LB ANDREW VAN GINKEL — After returning to the Dolphins on a low-cost one-year contract, AVG had a very great 2023 season, first as a swing linebacker and then as a starter on the edge after Jaelan Phillips was hurt. Van Ginkel made several significant defensive plays, the most notable of which was his pick-six at Washington. He should command a higher price this time around, but the Dolphins desperately need an edge defense with Phillips and Chubb expected to miss the start of the 2024 season. Outlook: Return 50-50.

S DeShon Elliott – After signing as a free agency on a one-year contract, Elliott added muscle to the Dolphins defense, though his pass-coverage stats were lacking. Outlook: Return 50-50.

T KENDALL LAMM — Lamm was in this same position last year after joining the Dolphins late in the 2022 season. He re-signed with the team on a one-year contract and gave some great work while Terron Armstead was out with injury. Lamm plans to search around for a potential starting chance, but he may return if that does not materialize. Outlook: Return possible.
