The Detroit Lions have signed DT Kyle Peko, who will be reunited with defensive line coach Terrell Williams.
On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions announced the signing of Kyle Peko, a veteran defensive tackle. They also verified the previously reported one-year contract for safety C.J. Moore.
Peko, who will be 31 before the season begins, has been on five different teams since entering the NFL. Most recently, he started 10 games for the Tennessee Titans last season, following a one-year tenure with the team in 2021. That’s significant because he worked under Tennessee defensive line coach Terrell Williams, who was hired by the Lions in the same job this offseason.
At 6-foot-1 and 305 pounds, Peko is expected to play as a 3 or 5-tech on Detroit’s defense. However, his pass-rushing ability is fairly restricted. He has only two career sacks in 42 games (12 starts). Last year, Peko had just seven total pressures (per PFF) in 153 pass rushing snaps.
However, the Lions’ cupboard is a touch bare in terms of pure defensive tackles. The only players that are currently healthy are McNeill, Levi Onwuzurike, Brodric Martin, and Smith. DJ Reader will be a popular figure once his damaged quad is fully recovered. However, for the time being, Peko adds a crucial body as the Detroit Lions’ Organized Team Activities begin in just two weeks.
Peko has appeared in 42 games, recording 56 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, two passes deflected, and one forced fumble.
