Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive, as Jamie Vardy’s contract at the King Power Stadium nears its end.
Jamie Vardy’s future is under intense scrutiny as his contract with Leicester City expires.
The Foxes legend has already stated that he does not intend to retire this summer when his current contract at the King Power Stadium expires, and manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that the 37-year-old, who scored 20 goals this season to propel the club to the Championship title and back to the Premier League, will be offered a new contract.
City have been warned it would be “daft” not to keep the prolific striker as they return to the top division of English football, but with no new contract signed and confirmed, the door is open for a possible exit this summer. Here’s what we know so far…
Vardy was asked if he wanted another go at the Premier League before City won it at Preston, and he said: “I’m not ready to hang up the boots yet; the legs feel fine.” I feel as fit as I’ve ever been, so we’ll see what happens.”
Maresca throws a hint.
Enzo Maresca believes Jamie Vardy is far from finished at Leicester City, with the boss indicating that a new deal could be on the way.
The manager responded, “You have been asking about Jamie all season! Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy. I did not discover Jamie Vardy. Jamie Vardy will continue to score goals throughout his life.
“He will score goals until he is 45 years old because it is in his blood to do so. We are extremely fortunate that he is our player. He’s scored numerous goals.
“Not yet (we didn’t discuss the deal) because the goal was to complete properly. We have a game on Saturday and then sit, but I have a feeling he will stay. “This is just my opinion, but if I had to decide…”
City sent a ‘daft’ message.
Leicester City have been informed it would be “daft” not to offer Jamie Vardy a new deal.
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock believes Leicester would be unwise to allow Vardy leave when his current deal expires at the end of the season, but Vardy will most likely have to accept lower earnings to stay at the club.
“I think you would be daft to get rid of him,” he replied. “He understands the Premier League, he has a winning mentality, and he is well-liked in the dressing room, according to those I’ve spoken with.”
“He won’t be able to command what he’s doing at the moment because to his age, but he’s always talked highly of Leicester City and the opportunity they’ve given him, and he’s returning them.
“As he progresses in his career, I believe there will be an element of ‘listen, I’ll play for whatever you give me.'” “I believe it would be a wise decision to sign him for another year,” he told Football League World.
Wrexham CEO Humphrey Ker has refused to rule out signing Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy.
Wrexham are preparing for life in League One next season after being promoted for the second consecutive season under Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. When asked if they could make a play for Vardy, Ker declined to rule anything out.
“There’s nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t make an excellent Wrexham player,” Ker told SPORTbible. “It’s not a name I’ve had mentioned inside the building before, but age and profile wouldn’t put us off.”
