Paul Holmes, a former Everton and West Brom defender, has died from cancer at the age of 56.
Holmes previously played for Doncaster, Torquay, and Birmingham before joining Everton in 1993 under Howard Kendall.
He played 28 games for the Toffees before moving to West Brom in 1996, where he made over 100 appearances in three years.
Holmes went to Torquay to conclude his career, retiring in 2003.
Everton announced Holmes’ death “after a brave battle with cancer,” and former teammate Ian Snodin told the club website: “He was a fine player and a lovely guy to share a dressing room with.”
