The latest news from the Stadium of Light as attention turns to the next permanent Sunderland boss.
Jack Clarke has offered Sunderland supporters hope that he will continue at the Stadium of Light next season.
The Black Cats star has been a standout during a difficult season, scoring 15 goals and giving four assists in 42 games across all competitions. Clarke’s form spurred suspicion that he could be lured away from Wearside, with Lazio, West Ham United, and Burnley all connected with a transfer for him.
That speculation is still ongoing and appears to be continuing into the summer months, but Clarke has resorted to social media to offer a ray of optimism to Stadium of Light fans.
In an Instagram post, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United winger wrote: “Another season has ended. Unfortunately, not good enough over the course of the year. We shall come back stronger. “Over and out.”
Dodds announces imminent plans.
Sunderland interim manager Mike Dodds is preparing to be ‘a little bit selfish’ as his time in command at the Stadium of Light comes to an end.
When Michael Beale left the Black Cats in February, the 37-year-old stepped in for the second time this season. Dodds’ reign came to an end on Saturday with a profoundly depressing 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, as Sunderland finished the season in the Championship’s bottom half. Dodds has disclosed his plans for the coming weeks, as attention turns to his permanent replacement at the Stadium of Light.
He stated: “I’m going to be a little selfish in the next few days and focus on myself. After that, I’ll be back in next week, and we have a number of meetings planned, so I’m sure there’ll be an update next week on where they are with the process and who the individual will be.”
Sunderland’s managerial candidate reacts to leaving.
Will Still has reflected on his departure from Ligue 1 club Reims, amid claims that he is still being considered to take over at Sunderland.
The 31-year-old joined the French club as assistant manager to former Watford boss Oscar Garcia before taking over as interim manager in October 2022. Still’s reputation was boosted by a 17-game unbeaten run that set a new league record, but his reign came to an end on a sad note when he departed the club following a 4-1 defeat at Clermont last month.
Still responded to his departure on Instagram, writing: “Three years of emotions, sharing, learning, victories, development, opportunities, and pleasure.” 19 matches will be remembered forever, and a fantastic trip has come to a close. Thank you to the Stade de Reims, the players, the crew, and, most importantly, the Rouge et Blanc supporters. “See you soon.”
