Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes has strong words for anybody who criticize his wife.
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs’ great quarterback, is not one to stir the pot. Whenever he makes headlines, it’s usually because of his on-field performance, and for good reason. In just six seasons as a starting quarterback in the NFL, he has won two league MVP awards, three Super Bowls, and three Super Bowl MVPs.
In addition to the medals on his mantle, Mahomes has put up incredible numbers on the field. In his debut year as a starter, he became only the third quarterback in NFL history to record 50 touchdown passes. In 2022, the year he received his second MVP Award, he led the league in passing yards (5,250) and touchdown passes (41). At just 29 years old, Mahomes is in the midst of his peak and should set records by the end of his career.
While Mahomes has received numerous great headlines for his performance on the field, his wife, Brittany Mahomes, has frequently been the subject of negative reports.
Brittany Mahomes has received a lot of criticism online and in the media.
Brittany Mahomes is no new to making headlines for less than ideal reasons. When Patrick’s career first took off, she and Jackson Mahomes were frequently mocked for their TikTok videos. While most of these videos were innocent, one featuring Jackson dancing on the memorial to murdered Washington Commanders legend Sean Taylor aroused uproar.
While Brittany rarely responded to critics of her social media videos, she began to receive criticism for talking with critics of her husband’s performance. This featured members of the media, particularly from SportsCenter. On Twitter, she criticized the popular ESPN show, writing, “Y’all are [trash can emojis] for this too, but he looks d— good to me…” It wasn’t how we intended it to finish, but 15 gave it his all, and I’ll always be proud of him in all he does. Now let us have a baby!”
Brittany was shamed on social media in January 2022 after spraying champagne onto a mob of fans celebrating the Chiefs’ playoff triumph. “I just wish I could do what I want without getting attacked every week,” she stated at the time.
Most lately, Brittany has defended Taylor Swift on social media. The two have been friends when the 14-time Grammy winner began dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Her words in defense of the popstar, as well as her impact on the NFL and its fans, have sparked backlash from more sexist social media users.
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, has strong words for his wife’s critics.
The Kansas City quarterback recently appeared on Logan Paul’s podcast (linked above). During their chat, they discussed his wife and her online detractors.
“I think people don’t even realize how much she does,” Patrick Mahomes said. “I mean, taking care of the day-to-day stuff and make it where I can focus on football and focus on my craft and everything like that.”
“[She’s] a Hall of Fame mom and a Hall of Fame wife, which makes things much easier. I mean, when you get home and your closest friend is there and you can just hang out, it makes you want to be there all the time, and she motivates me to be great, and she’s done a lot of wonderful things herself.”
Will the quarterback’s message be enough to deflect the hatred directed at his wife? Almost definitely not. Unfortunately, a screen gives people a false sense of invincibility, and they are more likely to say horrible things to or about almost anyone.
It is encouraging to see, however, that Mahomes has his wife’s back just as much as she does his.
