Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach dispels backcourt unrest rumors.

According to Niele Ivey, rumors that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball team is already in upheaval are completely incorrect.

With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women’s basketball season officially finished, it’s time to focus on the future. Unsurprisingly, any glimpse into the future should pique fans’ interest, given that Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles will be teammates in the 2024-2025 season. That does sound like a recipe for getting past the Sweet 16, doesn’t it?

It should come as no surprise, given the prevalence of social media speculations, that either Hidalgo or Miles may have an issue playing in the same backcourt. However, you should believe those rumors at your own risk.

Tyler Holka of On3 spoke with Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Niele Ivey about the rumors of animosity between the two stars. She clarified that the reports were “baseless banter.” It’s easy to believe that there are more than a few enemies outside of South Bend who would like to start such a conversation. Ivey claims it is not even remotely true.

“Hannah and Liv playing together is going to be something special for college basketball,” Ivey told the reporter.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish aren’t worried about new backcourt partners matching up next season.

Miles and Hidalgo would have gotten to know each other well during the 2023-24 season, but Olivia was forced to sit out the entire season while recovering from a knee injury sustained near the end of the 2022-23 season.

Meanwhile, Hidalgo has received numerous prizes and distinctions, including the Dawn Staley Award just last week. That honor is given to what is regarded as the top guard in all of women’s collegiate basketball.

However, it’s easy to forget that Miles set records long before Hidalgo arrived on campus. She has the most triple-doubles (3) in the program’s history.

The combo is expected to be one of the most explosive combinations in the sport. Expect huge things from both teams next season as long as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish program keeps everything in order.
