The Green Bay Packers enter the 2024 season with the same level of confidence as the rest of the league. In Jordan Love’s first full season, the squad finished just three points short of reaching the NFC Championship Game.

As the team prepares for Love’s second season at quarterback, they are scouting potential backup quarterbacks.

Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk reports that the Green Bay Packers have added a veteran quarterback to their roster ahead of the 2024 season.

This weekend, the Packers will look at a quarterback with some professional experience.

According to Matt Schneidman of TheAthletic.com, Jacob Eason is participating in Green Bay’s rookie minicamp.

Eason, 26, was the Colts’ fourth-round pick in 2020 and started as the team’s third-string quarterback as a rookie. He then won the backup quarterback role for Indianapolis in 2021 over Sam Ehlinger after training camp, but was waived in October.

Eason has previously been with the Seahawks, Panthers, 49ers, and Giants.

He has played in two career games, both against the Rams as an injury replacement. He has completed 5 of 10 throws for 84 yards and 2 interceptions.

The Packers now have only Jordan Love and Sean Clifford at quarterback, so Eason may stay with the team as its third quarterback if all goes well this weekend.

The Packers face competition at backup quarterback. This season
The Green Bay Packers are slated to start the 2024 season with Jordan Love, Sean Clifford, and their most recent draft pick, Michael Pratt. Brian Gutekunst has frequently stated that he wants to establish as many backup quarterback competitions as possible throughout training camp, despite the fact that this trio appears to be more than adequate.

Adding veteran Jacob Eason just deepens the competition at the position. Clifford wowed the squad so much last season that he won the backup quarterback position before the season even began. However, Pratt will undoubtedly give Clifford a run for his money. Greg Meinholz of Cheese Head TV did an excellent job explaining what Pratt will bring to Green Bay:

Michael Pratt was a four-year starter as quarterback for Tulane. During that time, he started 44 games, throwing 90 touchdown passes, 26 interceptions, and 28 rushing touchdowns. He was predicted to be a fourth or fifth-round choice, but he fell to the Packers in the seventh round, at pick 245. Pratt’s slide is due to concerns over an injury that plagued him throughout the 2023 season.

There has been some speculation that Pratt could have been picked in the second or third round if he hadn’t been injured. So, for the Packers to snag him in the seventh round, a round regarded as low-risk, is ideal for determining which Michael Pratt they will receive.
