In 2020, the Green Bay Packers made a decision that would impact the franchise’s future. During the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Packers picked Utah State quarterback Jordan Love. Three years later, just days before the 2023 NFL draft, the Packers dealt Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.

It was a decision that handed Love control of the franchise while also ending Aaron Rodgers’ remarkable career. Now, the same thing may happen with his new team.

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gets the same treatment from the New York Jets at the 2024 NFL Draft.

Aaron Rodgers’ season was cut short after four snaps last year due to a damaged Achilles, but the Jets will have him back in 2024. To avoid this from happening again, New York made a significant investment in the offensive line this offseason.

The Jets had already signed a seasoned backup in Tyrod Taylor, something they lacked last season when Zach Wilson was the sole option behind Rodgers on the depth chart. The Jets have now picked their third quarterback in the NFL Draft.

On Saturday, the Jets selected Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis with the 171st overall choice in the fifth round, hoping that he will blossom into the program’s future.

What Does This Mean for Rodgers’ Future?

Jordan Travis was a solid fifth-round choice. Travis, 23, was almost a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2023 and visited the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets as part of his top-30 visits. Several other teams were considered viable landing locations, including the Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Travis was anticipated to be one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft before his accident.

Falling to the fifth round may be a significant save for New York. Aaron Rodgers just turned 40 years old. If he intends to play for New York for another 2-3 years, Joran Travis might begin on the same timeframe as Jordan Love.

It will be an intriguing dynamic to follow for years.
