Everton are open to bids for on-loan defender Mason Holgate this summer, with a permanent departure inevitable, according to the Liverpool Echo.
According to the news outlet’s website (2 May), the club expects “serious” defensive changes this summer, with Jarrad Branthwaite anticipated to leave due to interest from Manchester United and a major sale proposed before June 30th.
Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey are both in the final year of their contracts, although Sean Dyche has showed faith in them this season. However, following loan spells at Southampton and Sheffield United this season, Holgate is set to be allowed to go permanently in the summer.
Mason Holgate has no future at Everton.
This news will come as no surprise to anyone at Goodison Park, as Holgate hasn’t had a future at the club for quite some time.
He struggled for consistent game time under Frank Lampard, and Dyche made it clearly plain that he was not going to play much under him either, especially following his red card at the end of the previous season.
A loan transfer to Southampton was expected to bring him attention from the Championship, but he couldn’t even obtain regular game time for them before joining the Blades, who were already on the verge of relegation.
He hasn’t ripped up any trees there either, since they returned to the second tier at the first time of asking, and he’s demonstrated to everyone that he isn’t a Premier League defender.
It’s in everyone’s best interests for him to go this summer, as he has one year left on his current contract, and the extra money could be beneficial to Everton.
