Davante Adams played two seasons with Jordan Love in Green Bay before seeking a trade to the Las Vegas Raiders, and the star wideout has been impressed by his former teammate.
Davante Adams has publicly voiced his appreciation for Jordan Love, the budding star quarterback he left behind with the Green Bay Packers. Despite switching allegiance to the Raiders in 2022, Adams has no regrets about his decision, but acknowledges he is impressed with Love’s performance.
Speaking on “The Rush” podcast with Raiders teammate Maxx Crosby, Adams revealed how Love’s perceived potential, or lack thereof, did not influence his choice to leave. “At the time when I was [in Green Bay], I hadn’t necessarily seen enough to say this is for sure what I should do,” he said.
“But in retrospect, as we said, the child is a baller, guy. I’m very thrilled for him.”
Adams, who didn’t get much playing time with Love, expressed a desire to catch up with the 25-year-old phenom and commend him for his accomplishments in Green Bay.
“I haven’t really had a chance to truly sit down and talk with him, but I want to tell him at some point like, ‘I definitely don’t regret changing [teams], but I’m super proud of what you’ve done,” he said. “‘If there’s a way I could pull you over here [to Las Vegas] and drag you with me like that, that would’ve been cool, too.'”
“Obviously, we saw what he did at the end of the year,” that’s what he said. “I don’t regret what I did, but, at the same time, it’s definitely you look back on it like, ‘damn, that boy kind of balling right now.'” .
Love didn’t make a big name for himself in the NFL until last season. In his first full season as Green Bay’s starter, he completed 372-of-579 passes (64.2%) for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns, helping the Packers reach the playoffs and the NFC Divisional Round.
Despite spending two seasons with Love in Green Bay from 2020 to 2021, Adams was never given the opportunity to see his full potential. That’s because the emerging talent was ranked behind Aaron Rodgers, who won the NFL MVP award in consecutive seasons.
After eight years of collaborating with Rodgers, Adams requested a move to the Raiders, where he would reunite with Derek Carr, another familiar face from Fresno State. Their combined NFL career did not last long, as Carr lost his starting spot following bad performances near the end of the 2022 season and was eventually released by Las Vegas.
