An inquest was held on Wednesday to determine Charlton’s cause of death. The England hero died in Macclesfield General Hospital on Saturday, October 21, after an accidental fall at the Willows care facility in Knutsford.

The inquest heard that Charlton lost his balance when standing up from his chair and collided with a windowsill. He may also have hit a radiator in the fall. Following the fall, Willows staff performed a full body check and found no evident injuries.

According to the inquiry, Charlton was transported to the hospital when workers discovered swelling on his back. Tests revealed that he had fractured his ribs in the accident and was placed on end-of-life care due to fears of developing pneumonia. Sadly, he died five days later.

Charlton died as a result of a fall, dementia, and pulmonary trauma (traumatic haemopneumothorax). Senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish determined that his death was accidental. The inquest was held in Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington.

Charlton had previously been hospitalized for appendectomy, gout, and chest infections. He also caught Covid in September. He received one-on-one assistance from staff at his care home because he ‘required support with all elements of daily living’, according to the court.

According to the inquest, Charlton’s bed was located close as close to the ground as possible, with crash mats and motion sensors around it. This precautionary measure was taken because of his restlessness, which left him vulnerable to rolling out of bed

Charlton’s death was announced publicly on October 21. His wife, Lady Norma, survived him. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning,” said a statement from Charlton’s family.

“He was surrounded by his family.” His family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who has helped with his care, as well as to the many people who love and support him. We respectfully request that the family’s privacy be respected at this time.
