It’s official: seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton will be sporting red in 2025 in a dramatic switch from Mercedes-AMG Petronas to Scuderia Ferrari, which he describes as “one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.” All of the relevant players have confirmed the news, putting an end to the wild conjecture that began yesterday evening.

Mercedes was the first to disclose Hamilton’s shocking exit, explaining that the 39-year-old Briton had exercised a release option in the two-year contract he had only signed last year.

“In terms of a team-driver partnership, our relationship with Lewis has become the most successful the sport has seen, and that’s something we can look back on with pride. Lewis will always remain

Hamilton added, “I’ve had an incredible 11 years with this team, and I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished together.” Mercedes has been in my life since I was thirteen years old. It’s where I grew up, so making the decision to leave was one of the most difficult I’ve ever had to make. But the time has come for me to take this move, and I’m delighted to embark on a new endeavor.”Ferrari then reacted with a simple one-liner, confirming Hamilton’s signing on a “multi-year” basis beginning in 2025. He will be partnered Charles Lecrlec, the Scuderia’s North Star and de facto number one driver, who has signed an agreement with Maranello.
