It took a while to get to the point where Caleb Williams is expected to be selected first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft when the first round begins on Thursday. However, he did not become so famous immediately.

The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from USC started honing his craft well before high school, and by the time he got to Gonzaga in Washington, D.C., it was clear that he had exceptional skill.

Williams made a significant impact when 247Sports saw him in person for the first time. First impressions matter a lot.

The recruiting and scouting teams at 247Sports share memories of witnessing some anticipated first-round picks in person for the first time, as the NFL Draft gets underway at 8 p.m. ET.

“After trailing Gonzaga by 20 points in the first half, quarterback Caleb Williams rallied his team for an exciting victory. In the 2018 WCAC title game, he not only made things happen with his feet and delivered passes into extremely small windows, but he also scored two touchdowns in the last 29 seconds to defeat Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha.
