Corey Davis, the New York Jets wide receiver, has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 28.
Davis was recently predicted to be the Jets’ starting wide receiver and a key player for new quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but he has decided to retire. Davis revealed in a message released on his social media sites why he chose to retire despite being in his prime.
He wrote: “For long time now, I’ve considered leaving football. This decision was not easy.
“Despite being a deep person, I am a guy of few words. I’ve been examining my heart for what to do, and I believe that leaving the game is the greatest option for me at this moment.
“I am more blessed than I could have ever imagined; I have an incredible family, a lovely wife, and two healthy children with whom I hope to spend more time.
“I am extremely appreciative for all of the possibilities I have had and will continue to have along my journey. Thank you to my family, friends, and the Jets organization for their support throughout this process.”

Davis, a former fifth-round pick by the Tennessee Titans, was expected to be a future league superstar, but he never matured into that after departing the Titans after four respectable, but not remarkable, seasons.
The Jets also unexpectedly released second-round pick Denzel Mims earlier this summer, and they may now hunt for other players at the position. However, they appeared to have landed on undrafted rookie Jacob Brownlee, who has been a standout throughout training camp and has risen as a candidate to make the club.
The Jets are also expected to be a run-heavy club after acquiring Dalvin Cook and having Breece Hall on the roster
