condition…Newcastle hope to get Kieran Trippier back for tonight’s Premier League match at Aston Villa.
The right-back was replaced late in the FA Cup triumph at Fulham over the weekend after a long-standing groin problem flared up.
Toon manager Eddie Howe stated after the match that the problem was most likely due to weariness, adding: “Fingers crossed, it’s nothing serious.”
Trippier is not Newcastle’s only concern as they attempt to arrest a run of four straight league defeats.
Miguel Almiron is expected to return from illness, but Howe said it “will be close” if Jamaal Lascelles is fit following a calf injury.
The Newcastle manager stated on Monday: “Harvey [Barnes] is getting closer. He’s probably the closest of the ones you mentioned, along with Callum Wilson.
“Then you go a little bit further back to [Joe] Willock and then further back to [Elliot] Anderson.”
Newcastle’s predicted starting lineup: Dubravka; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Miley, Guimaraes, Longstaff; Almiron, Isak, Gordon
