Franz Tost, AlphaTauri team head, has revealed that Daniel Ricciardo will be out of a Formula One car for ‘two or three weeks’ due to a hand injury.

Ricciardo was injured at Zandvoort last week after he crashed during practice while attempting to swerve compatriot Oscar Piastri at the banking turn three.

In the crash, he fractured a metacarpal bone in his left hand and was replaced by New Zealander Liam Lawson in the Netherlands.

Tost told Sky Germany that Ricciardo is still weeks away from being ready to drive an F1 vehicle, calling his participation in the forthcoming races in Singapore and Japan into question.

He stated, “He [Ricciardo] is doing well considering the circumstances. I called him; he is still in Barcelona but is already receiving physical therapy treatments there.

“We now have to watch how quickly the healing process progresses; we can’t say anything in advance; we need a few more days to gain a good picture of the process.

“I hope it’s only a few weeks, but we won’t see him in the automobile for the next two to three weeks. But we

Ricciardo replaced Nyck de Vries ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing 13th after returning to the cockpit for the first time since being sacked by McLaren in late 2022.

Ricciardo then finished 16th in Belgium before being involved in the Zandvoort incident last weekend, and he now appears to be on the sidelines for another while.
