The Texas Longhorns had a bye week following a heartbreaking loss to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game in Week 6, which ended their aspirations of entering the College Football Playoff. Despite the defeat, the club is now completely focused on their upcoming game, having used the bye week to rest key players who were nursing ailments.
During a weekly media press conference, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian noted that the bye week was critical for the team’s rest and recovery before the upcoming game versus Houston.
“We limited a lot of guys’ practice,” Sarkisian explained. “We really wanted to try and get them healthy.”
Despite not playing in Week 7, the Longhorns benefited from other teams’ losses and rose to No. 8 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
Texas will play Houston in their Week 8 matchup. Houston enters this game with a lot of energy after defeating West Virginia 41-39 in their last game, which was the Cougars’ first conference win of the season. It’s worth mentioning that Houston has won three of their four home games this season, which might be a significant test for Texas.
