Saquon Barkley’s perspective on the NFC East rivalry between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles shifted when he noticed his daughter dressed in Eagles green rather than Giants blue.

Even wearing Eagles gear, such as the black sweatshirt with the insignia near his left shoulder that he wore Thursday before being officially announced as one of the team’s newest members, seemed strange.

“We’ve been on the worse side of the rivalry, I guess you could say, for the past couple of years,” Barkley told ESPN. “But I’m happy to be a Philadelphia Eagle.”

Since drafting him second overall in 2018, the Giants are 3-10 (including the postseason) against the Eagles.

Barkley admitted that his departure from New York should have been handled better. The 27-year-old stated he has nothing but respect for the Giants and how they treated him over the past six years. Barkley signed to a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles on Monday, with $26 million guaranteed. He recently completed his healthiest and most productive two-year period in the NFL since his first two seasons.
