Newcastle United will seek to extend their Premier League unbeaten streak to five games this weekend, but they will face a significant challenge in the form of championship challengers Arsenal. Eddie Howe’s side has won two and drawn two of their last four top-flight games, and a win in North London might propel them to seventh.
The Magpies arrive at the capital at a frightening time. The Gunners are on a five-game Premier League winning streak, with three of those games including five or more goals. They did, however, slip up against FC Porto in the Champions League in midweek, and will need to overcome a one-goal deficit in the second leg of their Portuguese double header to advance to the competition’s last eight.
But first, they face Newcastle on Saturday evening, and the Magpies will be without some familiar first-team players. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of their current injuries, as well as any estimated comeback dates that are available…
Wilson could be out for three months after sustaining a pectoral injury that necessitated surgery during the recent victory over Nottingham Forest. Eddie Howe commented on the complaint, saying: ‘It’s a really weird injury, a tussle right at the end of the game. We initially believed it was his shoulder, but it was actually his pectoral muscle. He went to a specialist and is getting it operated on as we speak.
In an injury-plagued season for Newcastle, Willock, who began the season with an achilles injury and subsequently suffered a setback, went off pointing to his groin. Willock will now be evaluated, and the treatment room will once again appear crowded for Howe, with Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento, and Miguel Almiron all taking up space in the medical department.
