ESPN college football expert Kirk Herbstreit went off on those Florida State supporters and anyone else who believes they were cheated after being left out of the playoffs in favor of Alabama.
A fan questioned Herbstreit’s decision to include the Crimson Tide in his College Football Playoff final four even before Seminoles quarterback Jordan Travis sustained season-ending injuries.
Herbstreit says he didn’t hear from supporters in 2000, when Miami was denied a spot in the BCS Championship after defeating Florida State in the regular season. The Seminoles ultimately fell to Oklahoma in the championship game.
“You were big fans of the turnout back then-of course most of you, in this despicable lunatic fringe,” he went on to say.
The controversy is far from finished, as Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced an investigation into the College Football Playoff selection process to determine “if the committee was involved in any anticompetitive conduct” regarding Florida State’s absence from the playoffs.
“I have to express my view on who I believe are the greatest four teams. I’m not on the committee, and I don’t vote. Instead, I watch games, study teams, and offer my opinion. “That’s it,” Herbstreit stated. “And if you believe I have an objective or a motive, I apologize, but that is incorrect. I love this sport and care profoundly about it, and I can’t make everyone happy. In the summer, I ask the commissioners questions to clarify things up.Watch games,
