The Cornhuskers’ new coach realizes where the team stands in 2023, and he’s stripped the program down to the studs in the hopes of rebuilding it into the revered national brand it was a generation before.

“When I think about Nebraska, I just think about that helmet,” Rhule said, referring to the Huskers’ iconic white and red helmet. “It’s iconic to me, and it is across college football.”

Rhule believes Nebraska, which has won five national titles but none since 1997, should be in the national conversation every year for the right reasons. In recent years, much of the discussion regarding Nebraska has focused on coach Scott Frost’s remarkable failure across four or more seasons. The Huskers are coming off six consecutive losing seasons and no bowl berths. There have been no Top 25 rankings since 2019, ten seasons without a conference championship game, and no league title since 1999.

Georgia Tech Transfer Jeff Sims claimed the starting quarterback position in the spring leading incumbent Casey Thompson to transfer.

Marcus Satterfield’s offensive approach will include a tough run game with a fullback and a passing game based on intermediate throws.

“It puts me in a lot of different situations and puts me in a greater situation to show off my arm and my ability to pass the ball,” Sims said in a statement. “I’m ready to run anytime I have to. I’m going to do it on a high level.”
