The Alabama Crimson Tide football program is entering a new era under head coach Kalen DeBoer.

Many players from the 2023 roster have entered the transfer portal as a result of old coach Nick Saban’s departure, but one player announced his commitment to the incoming regime on Thursday.

Former Washington quarterback Austin Mack stated on his personal social media that he has committed to joining DeBoer in Tuscaloosa and playing for the Crimson Tide.

Mack is a 6-foot-6, 225-pound redshirt freshman quarterback from Loomis, California, who spent this past season with DeBoer and the Washington Huskies but did not play any games. He has four years of eligibility left.

He graduated early to reclassify into the 2023 class, although the 247Sports composite ranked him as a 4-star quarterback and the 16th best quarterback in the class of 2023.

As a one-year starter in high school, he completed 70% of his passes for 3,498 yards and 40 touchdowns with only five interceptions.

The Alabama Crimson Tide’s quarterback room will now include Mack, redshirt junior Jalen Milroe, redshirt sophomore Ty Simpson, redshirt freshman Dylan Lonergan, and true freshman Julian Sayin.

Mack is the first athlete to follow DeBoer from Washington to Tuscaloosa, but most recruiting agencies believe high-profile 4-star edge rusher Noah Carter, who was previously committed to Washington, will join the Alabama Class of 2024.
