Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers defense suffered a troubling injury when linebacker T.J. Watt was added to the practice report with a heel problem.
Watt did not practice on Thursday owing to his injury. He was a full participant the day before. It is uncertain whether the injury occurred during a practice earlier this week, is lingering from a previous game, or was fresh today.
The Steelers are also dealing with an injury to outside linebacker Nick Herbig, who has been limited this week due to a groin issue.
Watt’s ailment is now being monitored, but if it worsens, the team might be without two outside linebackers against the Los Angeles Rams.
Without Watt, Markus Golden would start opposite Alex Highsmith. Undrafted rookie David Perales would be considered for a call-up from the practice squad if necessary.
Outside of Watt and Herbig, the Steelers’ only other injury was tight end Pat Freiermuth, who was out with a chronic hamstring problem.
