Liam Ryan will be sidelined after scans revealed he strained a hamstring tendon in his right leg.
The star forward suffered the injury during Monday’s training session at Mineral Resources Park.
Ryan had surgery on his opposite hamstring in his left leg last season after an uncomfortable landing during a marking fight in the round three RAC Derby.
“Unfortunately, Liam has sustained a high-grade hamstring injury with some tendon damage that will necessitate surgery to repair,” General Manager Football Gavin Bell announced today.
“We’re all very disappointed for Liam. He had worked hard during the preseason and over the Christmas break to be ready to play when we began practice matches.
“We are confident that he will be able to return in the early stages of the season. The Club will provide an update on his return to play timeline in due course after surgery.”
Meanwhile, Coby Burgiel suffered a slight hamstring strain during Monday’s practice and will undergo short-term rehabilitation.
