The Las Vegas Raiders may have to play Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers without Josh Jacobs.
On NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, Ian Rapoport stated that Jacobs’ status is “very much in doubt” due to a quad injury sustained in the Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Jacobs seemed like a long shot to play in the week building up to tonight’s game. He skipped practices on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Trying to play with a quad injury on a short week is already dangerous. Following the loss to Minnesota, interim head coach Antonio Pierce told reporters that Jacobs had suffered a knee injury.
“Tough guy,” Pierce remarked of his standout running back. “I mean, we’ll look into it with our medical personnel, but he did his best to fight. He was unable to finish. We’ll check into it tomorrow.
Jacobs was injured in the fourth quarter and went to the locker room to be evaluated. He ended with 34 rushing yards on 13 carries. It was his second-lowest output of the season, following a negative two-yardage performance against the Buffalo Bills in week two.
Both sides come into Thursday’s matchup with weakened rosters due to injury. The Chargers will be without Justin Herbert, who had surgery to repair a broken finger on Tuesday, and Keenan Allen, who is out with a hip injury.
Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby are questionable for the Raiders. Adams was added to the injury report on Wednesday due to illness. Crosby has been suffering with a knee issue for some weeks, but he has played in all 13 games so far this season.
If Jacobs is unable to play on Thursday night, Zamir White will presumably take over as the Raiders’ primary running back. Ameer Abdullah could also receive more playing time.
