The Nebraska Cornhuskers competed for the NCAA volleyball national title on Sunday.
In a match to determine the 2023 champion, the No. 1 overall seed Huskers faced No. 2 seed Texas.
Nebraska has won the trophy six times before, most recently in 2017. But it’s even more familiar to the Longhorns, who defeated Louisville in last year’s finals in Omaha.
Texas wins it 25-14. Madisen Skinner has ten kills for the day, while Harper Murray has five.
Texas wins Set Two (25-14) and has a 2-0 lead. The Longhorns had seven aces in the set.
If Nebraska wins their sixth National Championship today, it will have to do so via a reverse sweep.
Harper Murray’s kill gives the Huskers their first lead at 11-9. Andi Jackson, Murray, and Bekka Allick each had two kills. A Texas red card and Murray block tie the first set at 22-22. Madisen Skinner’s kill earns the Longhorns the set, 25-22.
These two famous programs, as well as longtime Big 12 Conference foes, will face off in what could be a poetic finale to Nebraska’s spectacular season.
This year’s NCAA Tournament began with a great run for the Huskers, who swept LIU, Missouri, and Georgia Tech to advance to the Elite Eight, where they defeated Arkansas in five sets.
Nebraska then defeated No. 1 seed Pitt in the semifinals, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-17, to advance to its 11th national championship
On the other side, Texas has had an uphill battle to get to this spot, having defeated two No. 1s on their journey through the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
The Longhorns eliminated in-state rivals Texas A&M and SMU in the first two rounds before defeating Tennessee in five sets in the Sweet 16.
Texas defeated No. 1-seed Stanford on the road to advance to the Final Four before upsetting Nebraska’s Big Ten opponent and No. 1-seed Wisconsin in Thursday’s quarterfinal game.
