According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Green Bay Packers met with running back Aaron Jones’ agent this week at the NFL Scouting Combine to discuss a potential pay cut for Jones in the final year of his contract.
However, the Packers have stated that they are attempting to find a way to keep Jones, who is due to earn a base salary of $11.1 million and a cap charge of little more than $17 million.
The stated discussion was to negotiate a number that worked for the Packers, as well as Jones’ estimated market value.
The Packers are reportedly planning to terminate Jones at the start of the league year if no deals are reached. They would only save up $4.673 million in cap space if Jones is released without a post-June 1 designation, but $11.3 million if he is.

Jones’ $12 million salary for 2024 would be the second highest among all NFL running backs, trailing only Nick Chubb ($12.2 million).
Jones is in the final year of a four-year, $48 million contract and is expected to earn a $11 million basic pay, up to $258,000 in per-game roster incentives and a $500,000 workout bonus.
Jones, 29, appeared in 11 games last season, rushing for 656 yards and two touchdowns and passing for 233 yards and one touchdown.
