Detroit Lions’ Jalen Reeves-Maybin Signs Two-Year Extension

The Detroit Lions have named Jalen Reeves-Maybin the highest-paid core special teams player in history. According to NFL Network, Reeves-Maybin has agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million agreement. The outstanding special teams contributor was due to become a free agency, but he will stay in Detroit after agreeing to a $2.5 million signing bonus and $5.245 million in guarantees. “He is a key player. He’s the captain. He is a productive player. He’s intelligent. “He’s a team player, versatile, and can play defense,” Lions coach Dan Campbell stated in early December.

Reeves-Maybin was re-signed to a one-year contract last summer and appointed special-teams captain. The 29-year-old will play for the Houston Texans in 2022 before returning to Detroit for a second season. In his first game against Kansas City, Reeves-Maybin converted a fake punt. When needed for spot duty, the veteran also played linebacker, demonstrating his versatility and reliability.

“He is crafty. We watch him every day in practice, games, and one-on-ones in coverage and rush, and he is a ball player. “He finds ways to get a ball out,” Campbell said. “We have a ton of faith in him.”
