Former NFL player identifies ideal landing spot for Russell Wilson, and it’s not the Pittsburgh Steelers
Russell Wilson is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason once the Denver Broncos release him. With that said, there are great anticipation that he will join the Pittsburgh Steelers once his Colorado situation is resolved.
While Kenny Pickett is the starting quarterback and the team has backed him up, Mike Tomlin has voiced a desire to add some competition for him. Wilson certainly appears to be the type of quarterback that Pittsburgh requires, especially after being consistent postseason challengers but never Super Bowl champions for over a decade.
With an established program under Tomlin, the Steelers are an excellent fit for Wilson, who wants to compete at the highest level and show that he can still be a winning quarterback in the NFL if given the correct supporting cast and a system that believes in him.
The odds are in favor of the Steelers acquiring Wilson, but it remains to be seen if anything will materialize.
Despite reports linking Russell Wilson to the Pittsburgh Steelers, former NFL Pro Bowler Robert Griffin III believes the New England Patriots are a better fit for the veteran quarterback.
Griffin believes Wilson will prosper in New England, but admits it is doubtful. He projected that the Patriots would pursue Joe Flacco as a backup quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft with the third overall pick.
“The Patriots SHOULD SIGN Russell Wilson when he departs the Denver Broncos, but they are more likely to sign Joe Flacco, who worked with OC Alex Van Pelt in Cleveland last season. They will choose a quarterback this year, but they should.
It will be interesting to see what the Patriots actually accomplish. For what it’s worth, they’ve been suggested as a possible destination for Wilson as well, though the noise has died down in recent weeks.
One thing is certain: the Patriots could use a new quarterback in the post-Bill Belichick era.
